“Desirable.co.uk: Window-Shopping Without the Crowds!”
About the Site:
Desirable.co.uk is a British-based shopping and lifestyle blog and website which features daily updates about all sorts of ‘desirable’ things. We write about fashion, beauty products, homewares and gifts, but we also include interviews with our favourite designers and store-owners, announcements about upcoming events within the UK, and even reviews of television shows, movies, books and music! We’ll soon be expanding into food and drink in an effort to fit into our ‘lifestyle blog’ title.
Regardless of our content we always put our readers first – and that’s why we don’t charge a subscription, we don’t bombard you with pop-up advertisements, and we will always strive to give practical and interesting advice on all things fashion, design, decor and gift-related.
As part of our mission to be the best British lifestyle blog and ‘window-shopping website’, we have a Directory of British Stores that sell their ranges online, a Christmas Gift Guide for making those tricky gift selections just a little bit easier, and a Vouchers, Discounts and Sales section with all the latest updates on designer and high-street brand reductions. We have a Mailing List for our most dedicated readers (signing up is free and you get even more Desirable finds in a semi-regular email!) and regular Product Reviews to help you decide which brands and items are best. Wherever possible we will show you eco-friendly and ethical products, and will continue to publish How-To Guides to guide you through the wasteland that can be internet shopping.
Because part of the thrill of window shopping is discovering fantastic and unusual products, playing dress-ups and scoring bargains, the Desirable.co.uk blog – the centrepiece of our site – uses themed and brand-centric posts to show you new trends, unusual design ideas, quirky finds and must-have items. We want to take the place of your best shopping buddy – we offer practical but funny advice and have an eye for picking great fashion and design, so we make the perfect pal to take on an internet shopping excusion.
About Amy (Editor of Desirable.co.uk)
Amy is a twenty-something Australian currently residing in Edinburgh with her cat Ginger and her boyfriend. She has many years experience in retail fashion and marketting, and started Desirable.co.uk as a labour of love. Tired of trawling through hundreds of websites without finding anything notable, and sick of the fact that all the ‘good stuff’ seemed only to be available in the States, Amy developed Desirable.co.uk to be the ultimate collection of the best of British products, brands, designers and trends.
Amy admits to being obsessed with ABBA, Geordie accents, Claudia Winkleman and finding the ultimate eye cream. She loves baking, cocktails, and a good pair of heels, and has seriously considered stalking Louis Theroux and Noel Fielding.
Aside from doing the lions share of the planning, writing, editing and promoting, Amy is also the voice behind the Desirable.co.uk Twitter account (follow us here!).
About the Beauty Review team
Desirable.co.uk is lucky enough to have several very talented ladies (and one reluctant man) who test the beauty products we review. The beauty team is comprised of many of the Editor’s friends who include within their number a sassy Scottish gal, several hilarious Aussies and a couple of awesome English chicks – all of whom are united in their appreciation of good beauty products. When we review cosmetics and beauty products we try to factor in things like affordability, ease of application, the scent/texture/colour, and even whether the products are manufactured in an eco-friendly and ethical manner.
* Why do some of the links on Desirable.co.uk have asterisks after them?
Because Desirable.co.uk wants to remain completely independent from the influences of advertisers or brands, we made the decision to use affiliate programmes as our main way of making ends meet. We want to be completely open with our readers, which is why we show which of our links / featured products will go through affiliate programs, and which will not.
Item links which will earn us a small commission are indicated by the asterisk (*). Rest assured that we only feature items we ourselves love and NONE of the items we write about are being included just for the sake of making a commission – this would completely defeat the purpose of our entire site, after all!
Simply put, because we provide Desirable.co.uk to our readers for free, and we do not ask the brands we feature to pay for page-space or advertising, and so we need another way to make ends meet. This is why we use affiliate programmes, which essentially allow us to recoup a small commission from the majority of sales that are made as a result of our readers purchasing items that they have seen on our site.
Many websites use affiliate programmes – it makes absolutely no difference to the customer (the prices stay the same regardless of whether an affiliate program is being used or not) – and it benefits the brand or store because it essentially gives them free publicity. In fact, if you appreciate what Desirable.co.uk is doing and you want to help us out, the best way you can do this is simply by purchasing items with the asterisk after them – this guarantees we will make a small amount of commission and in the long run this will allow us to keep showing you all those fantastic items out there that we truly love.
