Scottish readers be alert – an awesome craft fair / winter market is going to be on at the Grassmarket tomorrow, with free entry for all! There’ll be all sorts available for sale, and it’s the perfect opportunity to get some Christmas shopping done, so make sure you pop along and say hello!
We Make is a group of craftspeople, artists and generally handy individuals who have formed a collaborative movement to promote their pieces both online and off. On Saturday the We Make crew will be holding their fifth fair at Chelsea Town Hall in London (5th December, folks), with eighty sellers showing their wares and some special events too. Iconic jewellery label Lady Luck Rules OK! will be holding a special ‘Speed Crafting’ section and there will also be limited edition art works available – an ideal Christmas present. The event sponsors, The Make Lounge, will be helping people create Christmas decorations too!
If you’re in the area and fancy popping along, it could be the perfect start (or finish) to your Christmas shopping. Plus we can offer you free entry (normally entry would be £2, which is ludicrously affordable anyway, but if you’re looking for a deal we’ve got one for you!) – the first twenty readers to email wemakelondon [at] googlemail [dot] com and mention Desirable.co.uk will be given free entry – but make sure you do it before Friday evening! Doors open at 11am and close at 5pm, and there’ll be some familiar faces – designers like Hannah Zakari and Laura Fallulah will be there. Make sure you pop by and say hello!
Levi’s are of course famous for making high-quality, affordable and fashionable denim, so it makes sense that they’re partnering with one of their biggest demographics (bands and music lovers) to hold a series of gigs entitled OnesToWatch. It’s a match made in heaven – a trendy, grungy-yet-fashionable denim brand promoting up-and-coming artists (many of whom wear the brand) who could well be the ‘must-see’ bands of the future (past acts include the Editors, Passion Pit, Friendly Fires and White Lies).
If you’re a fan of live music and perfectly fitting jeans, you might want to get yourself down to the Hoxton Bar & Kitchen tomorrow night (19th November) to see the newest OnesToWatch gig featuring Beth Jeans-Houghton (pictured above, left), MPHO and Sky Larkin (pictured above, top right). Beth Jeans-Houghton is a big fan of Levi’s and has been spotted wearing the new Red Tab 112 Jean (skinny fit, set to be massive yet again next summer, pictured above, bottom right), so we’ll be betting she wears more Levi’s tomorrow night (and who could blame her?). Sky Larkin are making a name for themselves as the next Yeah Yeah Yeahs, whilst MPHO has worked with pop fashionistas like Natasha Bedingfield and Ms Dynamite, so we’re pretty certain it’s going to be a gig not to miss.
Tickets are available on the Levi’s OnesToWatch website, and it ain’t just this Thursday night that the gigs are being held – other evenings will see soon-to-be-superstars like Mr Hudson and Marina and the Diamonds taking to the stage.
I don’t know about you, dear readers, but I just love it when fashion and music mix.
Coming from Australia I’ve always taken Westfield shopping centres for granted – they offer an air-conditioned haven from the strong Aussie sun and are stocked to the rafters with fantastic brands and your typical high-street stores. When Westfield opened their store in London one year ago (October 30th) I wasn’t sure Londoners would ‘get’ the Westfield shopping experience, but my doubts were unfounded – the centre, which is perfectly situated between Shepherds Bush, Notting Hill and West Kensington, is a suitable antidote to your typical high-street combo of dreary decor, closed-up shop fronts and exposure to the weather. Westfield London is none of these things – instead it’s beautifully designed (the Atrium is gorgeous), encased within a sheltering glass roof, and has brands clamouring for shop space. What more could you ask for in a shopping experience?
